A birthday party at Cryptic Room isn’t just a room booking with a cake added on — it’s a format we built specifically for kids, with its own pacing and difficulty.
Age-appropriate by design
Our kids’ packages are built around age groups, so a party for eight-year-olds runs differently from one for young teens. Puzzles get simplified or reworked, the scary elements get dialled down, and a dedicated host stays with the group the whole time.
Basic or Advanced
Every package comes in two tiers. The Basic plan covers the core party — the room, the host, the story. The Advanced plan adds extras like extended play time and additional entertainment, so you can match the package to how big a celebration you’re planning.
One or two rooms, depending on numbers
Smaller groups play in a single room; bigger parties can book two rooms running side by side, so friends split into teams and compare notes afterwards. Pricing and room combinations are laid out on our Kids Birthday page, with a live calendar so you can see what’s free on the date you want.
What parents don’t have to worry about
Our host runs the whole session — briefing, hints, and pacing — so you can actually enjoy the party instead of managing it.
How the day is timed
Parties are built around a simple rhythm: arrival and a quick briefing, the escape room itself, then cake and presents in a private area afterwards. We ask families to arrive 15 minutes early so the birthday child and their friends have time to settle in before the timer starts — rushing the start tends to make younger groups more nervous than excited.
Choosing a room for the age group
Not every room suits every age. We steer families with children under 10 toward our gentler puzzles and away from anything with a horror lean; older kids and teens often ask specifically for a scarier room once they’ve outgrown the family-friendly options. What parents can expect to do
Most parents either join in as an extra player or wait in our lounge area with coffee while the kids play — both are completely fine, and plenty of parents switch between the two mid-party. A game master stays with the group throughout to keep things moving and step in with hints if the kids get stuck, so there’s always an adult in the room even if no parents choose to play.
After the game
Once the room wraps up, we clear the party into a separate space for cake and presents, so the next booking isn’t waiting on you to pack up. Bring your own cake and decorations if you’d like — we just ask that you let us know in advance so we can have the space ready.
Booking the right size group
Our Basic and Advanced packages are built around groups of 6, 12, or 24 children, so it’s worth counting RSVPs before you lock in a package size — it’s easier to add a couple of extra kids to a booking early than to squeeze them in the week of the party. If your numbers are still moving around, tell us and we’ll help you pick a package with a bit of headroom.
Gifts and goodie bags
If you’re planning goodie bags or a small gift for each child, our lounge area has space to lay everything out ahead of time so it’s ready the moment the room finishes — no need to run back to a car or hide bags in a corner. Just let our team know when you arrive and we’ll point you to the right spot.
